The Manchester Royal Infirmary is one of the largest of the Private Finance Initiative (PFI) projects.
PFI projects were first launched in the UK in 1992 and have since grown into one of the governments most significant means to fund infrastructure developments. In the past, public authorities paid contractors directly from construction projects. However through the PFI the private sector pays for construction and will then fully service and maintain the infrastructure for a period of up to 30 years in return for an annual payment. This newly constructed hospital has been completed in phases over the past 2 years allowing departments to move into the new areas as they were completed. The vacated areas were then demolished and re-constructed, until the entire hospital was re-built. The completed hospital is now known as Manchester Joint Hospital.
The heating and chilled water service packages were fabricated off site to reduce costs and delivered to Mechanical Contractors Rotary North West.
Stourflex were asked to provide a solution to solve the challenges of thermal expansion in pre installed pipework and provide equipment that enabled the contractor to retro fit expansion bellows and associated pipe work anchors and guides.
Stourflex provided over 500 of their Type JP116VS, JP115 and JP113 axial expansion joint alongside their modular anchor and guide systems which enabled the contractor to accommodate the thermal expansion in the pipework systems.
STOURFLEX® offer a complete design service which includes technical advice, site surveys and after sales support.
