 The £45 million project covered two sites, one at Bristol and another at Worle in North Somerset.
 The heating and chilled water services on this project were installed using plastic pipework. Plastic provides many advantages over conventional materials, however the coefficient of thermal expansion on some plastics is up to ten times that of carbon steel or copper.
On large projects the increased thermal growth involved needs careful consideration and management. The traditional method of absorbing thermal expansion in plastic pipework is by using offsets or incorporating pipe loops.
 Due to space restrictions and pipe routes this was not possible on this project.
Stourflex were asked to provide a design to accommodate the large amounts of thermal expansion on the pipework.
This was achieved using the JP116VS axial expansion joint which can accommodate up to 60mm of expansion.
The JP116VS has the added advantage of Water Regulations Advisory Scheme (WRAS) Approval.
